Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has imposed an ad hoc penalty of Rs 10 million on Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) for misusing the civic body?s permission for laying down cables in the city. According to RMC, the notice asking for payment of the penalty amount must be adhered to before March 15, 2015, failing which legal action including filing of a police complaint against the company would be initiated by the corporation.
RMC has alleged that the telecom operator?s contractor laid parallel cables of a local internet service provider (ISP), though the company had been given permission to lay only its cable.
Earlier, RMC had issued notices to the company on December 15, 2014 and January 22, 2015. Responding to these notices, RJIL had held its local contractor responsible for the offence but did not take any action. Therefore, RMC has now decided to impose a penalty on the company.
Meanwhile, the corporation has also asked RJIL to stop the ongoing work of laying cables in the city and also remove the parallel cables of the local ISP.
