According to data from the commerce ministry, India’s electronics imports surpassed the $100 billion mark in financial year 2025-26 (FY26). Imports rose 17.76 per cent to $116.17 billion in FY26, compared to $98.65 billion in the previous fiscal.
Commenting on the trend, think tank GTRI noted that the high level of electronics imports reflects India’s continued reliance on imported semiconductors, components and electronic equipment, despite ongoing efforts to boost domestic manufacturing.
Electronics exports also recorded strong growth, increasing 24.7 per cent to $48.0 billion, driven largely by smartphone shipments. However, exports remain significantly lower than imports.
