According to Neeraj Mittal, secretary, Department of Telecommunications, India’s 5G rollout has been one of the fastest globally, covering 100 million consumers in a year.

Citing a report by Ookla, Mittal said that India has grown by leaps and bounds in mobile broadband speed. He said that the increase in speed will no longer be limited to urban areas and will be extended to all village panchayats in the country through the BharatNet programme.
Mittal noted that India has already created the Bharat 6G Alliance which is a collaborative effort of industry, academia and the government. He informed that DoT is also funding programmes through the Telecom Technology Development Fund on 6G testbed, optical communication, research etc.
Further, Mittal stated that India’s close collaboration with countries and the trusted telecom product regime will enable the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to become significant players in the ecosystem.
