According to the Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC), the Indian telecom sector’s exports surged 35 per cent in 2023.
Speaking at an industry event organised by TEPC and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), N. G. Subramaniam, chairman, TEPC, and chief operating officer and executive director, Tata Consultancy Services, said, that India has attracted $8 billion of foreign director investment in the telecom sector. He informed that domestic research and development and manufacturing of products and solutions has very steadily increased in the last few years.
Taking note of the Bharat 6G Vision document, Subramaniam said that it envisages that the country should account for 30 per cent of overall contributions to the development of 6G standards, and at least about 10 per cent of patents filed for 6G technology should come from India. He stated that the necessary infrastructure, processes and enablers have already been put in place in the form of the Bharat 6G Alliance. The alliance is working very closely with the Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI), Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) and other bodies, industry as well as academia.
