According to a recent survey conducted by SAP, 96 per cent of Indian midmarket organisations, defined as those with 250 to 1,500 employees, are prioritising generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). This figure stands in stark contrast to the global average of 91 per cent.

The survey revealed that in 2024, adopting GenAI (66 per cent) is one of the top priorities for Indian midmarket businesses, closely following cybersecurity preparedness (67 per cent) and surpassing initiatives to enhance environmental sustainability (65 per cent).

Further as per the survey, Indian businesses are also leading the charge in AI adoption compared to their global counterparts. The survey highlights that 49 per cent of Indian companies utilise AI for forecasting and budgeting, outpacing the global average of 40 per cent. Similarly, 48 per cent of Indian firms deploy AI for developing marketing and sales content, compared to 41 per cent globally. Other key AI applications in India include gathering market intelligence (47 per cent), monitoring regulatory compliance (47 per cent), and addressing cybersecurity threats (46 per cent).

However, the survey also identifies talent acquisition as a major concern, with 39 per cent of Indian businesses citing the challenge of attracting and retaining AI-skilled professionals as the biggest risk. Additional concerns include data transparency (36 per cent) and acting on incorrect information (36 per cent).
