India has excluded smartphones and optical fibre cables (OFC) from import duty concessions under the recently concluded free trade agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom. This means that these telecom-related products will not be eligible for any tariff benefits under the trade pact.

Further, the agreement overall aims to eliminate or reduce tariffs on 99 per cent of Indian exports to the UK and improve access for British goods. The broader objective is to double bilateral trade from the current $60 billion to $120 billion by 2030.
