
According to the market research company eMarketer, India will surpass the US to become the second largest market for smartphones in the world by 2016. The firm has reasoned that the availability of affordable handsets in India will make the country the second largest in terms of the smartphone adoption with around 200 million users by 2016. Also, eMarketer has stated that the increasing penetration of affordable smart mobile devices in the emerging markets will help the smartphone users cross 2 billion globally by the same time.
According to the report, China will continue to lead the global smartphone market with 624.7 million smartphone users and followed by India with 204.1 million users in 2016. Further, the US will have around 198.5 million smartphone users while Russia and Japan will have 65.1 million and 61.2 million users respectively.
It added that in end 2014, China will have an estimated 519.7 million smartphone users followed by the US at 165.3 million.
Meanwhile, by 2015, more than a quarter of the global population will use smartphones and the number will increase to over one-third of consumers worldwide by 2018.
