According to the Network Readiness Index 2022 (NRI 2022) report, India has improved its position by six slots and is now placed at 61st rank. The country has also improved its score from 49.74 in 2021 to 51.19 in 2022.

As per the report, India leads in several indicators. The report states that India secured first rank in artificial intelligence (AI) talent concentration, second rank in mobile broadband internet traffic within the country and international internet bandwidth, third rank in annual investment in telecommunication services and domestic market size, fourth rank in information and communication technology (ICT) services exports, fifth rank in fibre-to-the-home (FTTH)/building internet subscriptions and AI scientific publications.

Further, NRI-2022 report states that India has a greater network readiness than would be expected given its income level.  India is ranked third out of 36 in the group of lower-middle-income countries.  The country has a score higher than the income group average in all pillars and sub-pillars.

Meanwhile, as per the report, the US takes the first spot from the Netherlands as the most network-ready society. The biggest mover is Singapore, which surged from the seventh position to rank second in this year’s index, pushing Denmark and Finland out of the top five. As for regional distribution, Singapore and Korea are the only top 10 countries located in Asia and the Pacific, and the US is the only economy located in the Americas. The rest of the top 10 rankings consist of European countries.
