The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad is reportedly working to ensure India establishes itself as a global leader in 6G technology, which is targeted for rollout by 2030. According to a telecommunications researcher at the institute, 6G will go beyond being a faster version of 5G by enabling ubiquitous high-speed connectivity across cities, villages, oceans, and skies, with artificial intelligence (AI) embedded at its core.
The technology is expected to power instantaneous augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) applications, AI-enabled devices, autonomous mobility, and large-scale intelligent internet of things (IoT) networks, transforming critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and defence.
With a decade of indigenous research and development supported by a proactive policy framework, India aims to develop its own technologies, products, and companies by 2030, aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
