Idea Cellular has posted its results for the second quarter ended September 30, 2013.

As per the company, with the increasing proportion of rural subscribers, the seasonal slowdown in the second quarter was more pronounced resulting in sharp contraction in the voice minutes of use by 5.8 per cent to 138.8 billion minutes, compared to 147.3 billion minutes in the first quarter of financial year 2014.

Meanwhile, the company?s standalone revenue increased by 18.1 per cent on a year-on-year basis to Rs 63.17 billion, compared to Rs 53.481 billion in the second quarter of financial year 2013.

The company?s revenue market share increased by 16.2 per cent and the visitor location register (VLR) subscriber market share increased to 16.7 per cent in the first quarter of financial year 2014, a 1 per cent improvement in one year.

Operationally, the company launched 4,312 new sites (2G and 3G) to reach network site Ethernet-over-power of 114,001 sites (2G and 3G) and expanded its optical fibre network to 77,000 km. The company also registered 38.2 per cent year-on-year growth in standalone EBITDA.

In the period under consideration, the number of voice minutes expanded by 10.5 per cent on a year-on-year basis, to 125.6 billion minutes in the second quarter of financial year 2013. This was owing to the company adding 13.1 million customers annually (from July 2012 to July 2013) and registering the highest incremental VLR subscriber share at 39.5 per cent in the same period.

With company reducing the number of promotional minutes, the average realised rate per minute improved over the year by 8.3% per cent. Value added services accounted for over 16.1 per cent. The company?s revenue from data services increased by 3.3 per cent to 8.7 per cent year-on-year.
