Idea Cellular is planning to float a new company to operate in the Karnataka and Punjab circles. The company board has given its in-principle approval to demerge the unified access service (UAS) licences of the two circles. The move is primarily meant to avoid overlapping of spectrum and licences allocated after the company acquired B.K. Modi’s Spice Communications. Idea has also stated that if DoT does not accept this option, it is willing to surrender either one of the licences issued to it in January 2007.
