ICEYE, a global provider of space-based intelligence, plans to set up its first production facility in India within the next year to manufacture small satellites for defence, surveillance and environmental monitoring applications.

The company’s chief executive officer and co-founder said the facility will serve as ICEYE’s primary manufacturing hub for the Asia-Pacific region, complementing its existing operations in Europe and the United States. He added that the company aims to establish a local supply chain and manufacturing presence in India within the next six to 12 months.

At present, ICEYE produces around 50 satellites annually and plans to scale this to over 100 per year by 2028.

The chief executive said the company is in discussions with relevant government departments regarding its plans, and is exploring potential collaborations across India’s space and defence ecosystem. These include satellite launch providers such as the Indian Space Research Organisation and private players, electronics and component manufacturers, technology partners, and defence ecosystem participants such as drone makers and integrated systems providers.
