According to Infonetics Research, Huawei led the global broadband customer premises equipment (CPE) market with 17 per cent market share in 2014. Huawei was followed by ZTE and ARRIS in second position with a market share of 11 per cent each. Other vendors including Alcatel-Lucent and Technicolor commanded a market share of 7 per cent each in the CPE market in 2014.

As per the research firm, the broadband CPE market grew by 9 per cent to reach $10.5 billion in 2014. The market growth was driven by increasing demand for fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and data-over-cable service interface specifications 3.0 CPE. Infonetics Research states that service providers are making significant investments in new technologies which provide them marketing advantages over competitors by establishing high speed networks.

Further, with new investments by operators in new technologies, the industry will witness continued growth for DOCSIS 3.0 and upcoming 3.1 devices for cable operators, and FTTH, VDSL and G.fast CPE for telecom industry. The research firm concludes that by 2009 digital subscriber line will account for a smaller share of broadband CPE revenue as operators would make higher investments in FTTH services. However, a number of operators are expected to forgo FTTH altogether and instead use long term evolution (LTE) spectrum to deliver LTE services.
