According to Infonetics Research, Huawei led the voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) market in the first quarter of 2013.

Huawei was followed by Alcatel-Lucent and Genband, in terms of market share. Other vendors like Acme Packet, AudioCodes, Ericsson,s Metaswitch and ZTE also posted strong growth in the first quarter of 2013.

Further, the global carrier VoIP and IP multimedia subsystem market in the first quarter of 2013 stood at $712 million, registering a decline of 11 per cent in comparison to the fourth quarter of 2012. The market declined on account of decreasing sales of legacy equipment and voice application servers.

Also, in the quarter under review, the sale of IMS equipment exceeded the sales of the next-generation voice equipment. The Caribbean and Latin America region led the growth in the VoIP and IMS segment.

In the first quarter of 2013, North America is the only region to post quarter-over-quarter growth in the market, registering an increase of 26 per cent. The region registered growth in the VoIP and IMS segments due to increasing deployment of 4G networks. Meanwhile, the VoIP and IMS markets witnessed a one-third decline in the Asia Pacific region in the first quarter of 2013.
