According to Cellular Operators? Association of India (COAI), country?s GSM subscriber base stood at 726.90 million at the end of April 2014. In the month of April 2014, GSM operators added 4.97 million new subscribers.

Earlier, in March 2014, nine GSM operators had together added a total of 8.26 million new subscribers. Further, in April 2014, Bharti Airtel added maximum number of new subscribers at- 1.19 million. The operator?s total subscriber base for the period under review stood at 206.58 million with a market share of 28.42 per cent. Meanwhile, Vodafone India added 731,272 users during April 2014, taking its total subscriber base to 167.29 million. The operator had a market share of 23.01. Vodafone India was followed by Idea Cellular which added 770,045 users. The operator?s total user base and market share at the end of April 2014 stood at 136.56 million and 18.70 per cent, respectively.

Further, Aircel added 998,413 new users, taking its total subscriber base to 71.15 million, while Uninor added new 968,871, with a total user base of 36.56 million. For the period under review, Aircel and Uninor?s market share stood at 9.79 per cent and 5.03 per cent, respectively. Meanwhile, Videocon Telecom and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) added 295,427 and 12,794 new subscribers taking their total subscriber base to 5.28 million and 3.25 million, respectively. For the period under review, Videocon Telecom and MTNL had a market share of 0.73 per cent and 0.45 per cent, respectively.

Other operators including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Loop Telecom did not add any new subscriber in the month of April 2014.
