The government has received 38 applications for the revised production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware. The applicants include HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Foxconn, as well as domestic manufacturer Dixon Technologies.

These 38 of the total 88 firms that registered before the deadline have subsequently been converted into applications. Over the next six years, they intend to invest over Rs 40 billion in additional production worth Rs 3.35 trillion.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Railways, expects more applications than the 38 already received before the window for new entrants expires. According to Vaishnaw, the revised scheme had a cash outlay of Rs 170 billion, but has received proposals worth Rs 228.8 billion. The PLI scheme for IT hardware incentivises the production of laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers, and ultra small form factors in India.

Additionally, the beneficiaries of the scheme will create more than 75,000 direct jobs.
