The Intelligence Bureau?s (IB) attempts to monitor the mobile and internet usage in the country have been expedited by the government.

The Government is reportedly looking to invest Rs 8 billion towards establishing the National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCC), an internet scanning agency.

The NCCC is expected to monitor all the traffic passing through Internet service providers in the country, as well as international internet gateways.

In case it registers a potential security threat, it will issue actionable alerts to government departments.

Meanwhile, as per the IB?s directive, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had asked Idea Cellular and Vodafone India to provide IB with details of the subscribers using internet on their mobile phones.

Prior to this, companies such as Research In Motion, Google, Yahoo!, Nokia, Motorola, etc, came under the IB?s scanner. Recently, after several rounds of discussions with DoT, RIM recently established a server in the country to enable security agencies to access its Blackberry Messenger services.

RIM had been under various Indian security agencies? scanner for three years with regard to this issue.
