The government is reportedly planning to provide incentives worth Rs 760 billion towards setting up over 20 semiconductor design, components manufacturing and display fabrication (fab) units over the next six years. This move is aimed at making India a hub for electronics.

As per industry sources, the government’s target includes two fab units for displays, and 10 units each for designing and manufacturing components.

However, the scheme is yet to be floated before the cabinet for approval. Once the cabinet gives a go-ahead, the final contours of the policy will be drawn and advertised, seeking interest from companies to invest.
