The government of Gujarat is reportedly in advanced talks with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and three other private entities to set up submarine cable landing stations (CLSs) along the state’s coastline. These stations are expected to be critical for enabling high-speed international data transmission, acting as key gateways for submarine cables linking India to global networks.

The Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, has received four proposals, which are currently under active review. The move aims to position Gujarat as a digital infrastructure hub by expanding its access to global connectivity.

Further, this initiative is aligned with the Gujarat IT/ITES Policy 2022–27, which provides a range of incentives for companies investing in digital infrastructure. These include land identification and allotment, doorstep utility facilitation, capital expenditure assistance, and electricity tariff subsidies for five years.

Currently, India hosts 17 cable landing stations, located mainly in Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Tuticorin, and Thiruvananthapuram. Key players in India’s submarine cable infrastructure space include Tata Communications, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Sify Technologies, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
