The government has liberalised the guidelines on other service providers (OSPs). Under this, there will be no restrictions on data interconnectivity between OSP centres of the same company or a group company or any unrelated company.

Thus, a business process outsourcing (BPO) centre with common telecom resources will now be able to serve customers located worldwide, including in India and there will be no distinction between domestic and international domestic OSPs.

Further, welcoming the move, Virat Bhatia, Chairman, FICCI ICT Committee, stated, “Liberalisation of the OSP Guidelines today will provide a big stimulus for growth of OSP industry in India, further creating immense opportunities, income and employment for the country.”

The guidelines has further liberalised the policy framework in additional to the reforms announced in November 2020. The continuation of the policy reforms in the OSPs sector will help promote new job opportunities, encourage an innovation led ecosystem, and support the development of an inclusive and diverse workforce. Some of the main features of liberalised guidelines announced today are:

  • Removal of Distinction between Domestic and International OSPs
  • Relaxation in EPABX (Electronic Private Automatic Branch Exchange) Rules
  • Remote Agents of OSP can now connect directly with the Centralised EPABX/ EPABX of the OSP
  • Relaxation on Interconnectivity between OSPs Centers
