According to Gartner, the government spending on information technology (IT) in India is expected to increase by 5.7 per cent to reach $6.8 billion in 2015. The forecast includes government spending on internal services, software, IT services, data center, devices and telecom services.

The government?s push for delivering various citizen services through electronic service delivery platforms along with focus on smart city projects are few of the key growth drivers for higher IT spending by government-led agencies. The research firm further states that IT services alone are expected to grow by 10.5 per cent to reach $1.7 billion in 2015. The business process outsourcing (BPO) segment is expected to grow by 21.2 per cent while IT spending on internal services such as salaries and benefits paid to the information services staff of an organisation, is expected to increase by 8.8 per cent in 2015 to reach $1.6 billion.

Gartner concludes that growth in vertical specific software, the overall software spending in the country is estimated to reach $860 million in 2015.
