The government is exploring the adoption of a common charger for a multiple devices, including smartphones and tablets. To this end, the government has scheduled a meeting on August 17, 2022 to discuss the issue with the industry.
The meeting with mobile makers and sector-specific organisations has been called to assess the possibility of ending the use of multiple chargers in India and thereby reduce e-waste.
Currently, consumers are forced to buy a separate charger every time they buy a new device due to incompatibility of the ports of the existing charger.
