The government has constituted a panel to draw a roadmap for reviving the two loss making telecom operators – Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited.
The panel will also look into the Department of Telecommunications? request to extend a financial aid package of Rs 230 billion to the two operators.
The members on the panel include P. Chidambaram, Minister of Finance, Kapil Sibal, Minister of Telecommunications and IT, Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, among others.
The panel has to submit its recommendations by July 2013.
