Google Cloud is planning to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) data centre presence in India beyond the recently announced facility in Visakhapatnam, according to the company’s global chief executive officer (CEO).

Speaking during a recent visit to India, the CEO said the company’s initial $15 billion investment, disclosed in October 2025, for a one-gigawatt (GW) AI-focused data centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, was not intended to be its final commitment to the country. The company has ambitions that extend well beyond the current phase, he said, adding that Google Cloud plans to double its capital expenditure on data centres in India.

Further, he described India as Google Cloud’s strongest market in Asia, with the enterprise sector growing faster than any other. He noted that Google Cloud has declared AI its principal growth engine globally, with enterprise adoption serving as the primary channel for driving broader AI use.
