According to the Information Technology Minister, government of Goa, in a written reply during the ongoing monsoon session, the government of Goa is planning to establish a fresh optical fibre cable network throughout the coastal state to improve internet access and ensure digital connectivity for every household.
As per the Minister, the proposed fibre network will serve as the foundational layer of the state’s ‘Har Ghar Fibre’ mission.
Moreover, the project will be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model and will utilise existing infrastructure like the goa broadband network and BharatNet to prevent duplication of resources.
He further added that the final delivery of internet services to households will be carried out by licensed internet service providers (ISPs), who will operate through shared or leased access to the optical network.
Additionally, the rollout will be implemented in phases, giving precedence to regions currently experiencing weak or no internet coverage.
