The government of Uttar Pradesh is reportedly in discussions with Foxconn to establish a new manufacturing facility in Greater Noida. Officials from the state government and representatives from the Taiwanese firm have already conducted two rounds of meetings in Delhi and Lucknow regarding the proposed project.
The upcoming facility is expected to focus on mobile phone manufacturing and will expand Foxconn’s existing footprint in India. The plant is proposed to be developed on approximately 300 acres of land and will be separate from the 50-acre joint venture Foxconn has with HCL for an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the HCL-Foxconn joint venture (JV), which is awaiting Cabinet approval, has initiated talks with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Taiwan-based CTCI for the OSAT project. Foxconn is reportedly set to invest $37.2 million for a 40 per cent stake in the JV.
Further, the proposed Greater Noida facility is projected to generate around 40,000 jobs.
