The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has informed the Supreme Court that former Minister of Finance, Jaswant Singh, may be scrutinised over alleged irregularities in the workings of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) between 2003 and 2004, during Arun Shourie?s regime.
At the time, Jaswant Singh headed the empowered group of ministers (EGOM).
The CBI added that its probe of the alleged lapses in DoT was broadly divided into four parts. The timeline of the probe was during the tenures of former Ministers of Telecommunications and IT, Pramod Mahajan (2002-03), Arun shourie (2003-04), Dayanidhi Maran (2004-07) and A. Raja (2007-10).
In so far, the CBI has uncovered little evidence of lapses during Arun Shourie’s tenure. It is believed, however, that there were several variations in policies and their implementation during Pramod Mahajan’s tenure, which is being investigated further.
