Essar Telecom is in talks with Bharti Airtel and Kenya-based operator, Safaricom to sell its Kenyan operations for about $100 million. Currently, Essar Telecom offers telecom services under the yuMobile brand in Kenya and is the country?s fourth largest operator.
The company has filed an application with the Communications Authority of Kenya to transfer its telecom business to prospective buyers. As per the news reports, Bharti Airtel is looking at acquiring yuMobile subscribers whereas Safaricom intends to buy yuMobile?s infrastructure assets.
Essar Telecom launched yuMobile telecom services in Kenya in December 2008. At present, about 2.7 million subscribers use yuMobile telecom services.
