Wireless equipment manufacturer LM Ericsson has signed a $150 million contract with Russia’s leading mobile operator, OAO Mobile TeleSystems. Under the contract, LM Ericsson will expand the Russian company’s GSM network capacity and coverage in six regions. The Swedish company has already started deliveries and is expected to complete them by the end of this year. It will deliver switching and radio equipment that supports both GSM and general packet radio service standards, and will enable the Russian company to offer advanced and innovative services. The network will also be given Enhanced Datarates for GSM Evolution capability.
