According to the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the electromagnetic field (EMF) radiations from base transceiver stations and mobile handsets do not cause any health related issue. The industry body is of the view that given that over 80 per cent population of the country has mobile phones with 900 million connections; the growth of the mobile market has led to false view of the impact of EMF emissions from these mobile phones.
In this regard, COAI has launched a public awareness campaign using videos and road shows with the participation from experts in the fields of oncology, radiology, molecular and physical science to alleviate the health fear. It has also come up with the ‘Mobile Networks and Public Health’ series with involvement of experts from the world.
Earlier, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had also claimed that the health hazards related to the emissions from the towers and mobile phones are not based on scientific data and facts.
