The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) plans to cancel British Telecom’s licence to offer voicemail and audio conferencing services in Mumbai, say news reports.
This is on grounds that BT delayed the launch of these services. BT had obtained this licence in February 2009 and was supposed to have started services within a year.
The company had obtained two licences for offering voicemail and audio conferencing facilities, one for Mumbai and the other for Bangalore.
While the company started its service in Bangalore, it did not commence services in Mumbai.
In its response to DoT, BT had said that it could not start the service in Mumbai due to non-availability of links from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
DoT will also encash the company?s Rs 0.3 million performance bank guarantee due to non-fulfilment of rollout conditions.
