The Department of Telecommunications has sought the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs? (CCEA) approval for setting up Centralised Monitoring System and Telecom Testing Security Certification. The move comes in light of the ongoing security concerns in the telecom sector. The proposed facility is estimated to cost Rs 5.40 billion of which Rs 4.50 billion is expected to come through government funding.

Under the new system, DoT has proposed to set up a centralised national hub and various regional nodes for monitoring, interception and analysis for all types of technologies, all service providers. Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) has been identified to set up the Centralised Monitoring System and the Indian Institute of Science will be the nodal agency for setting up the Telecom Testing Security Certification project.
