The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is pulling out all stops to put the upcoming 2G auction on the fast track.
It has already said that it will conclude the entire process by August 31, 2012.
Now, it is believed that DoT is negotiating with the Ministry of Defence to release 55 MHZ of more spectrum in the 1,800 MHz band, as per news reports.
Further, DoT reportedly made a presentation to the Ministry of Defence in this context. It has suggested two scenarios for the same.
First, it has reportedly said that if the Ministry of Defence releases the entire chunk of 55 MHz spectrum, 47 slots of 5 Mhz spectrum will be available for auction, as against 33 slots without it.
It has reportedly argued that in this case, the extra bandwidth will be able to accommodate four players in three circles, three players in another four circles, five players in one circle, and two players in seven circles even if spectrum is reserved for re-farming in 2014.
DoT also suggested not retaining any spectrum for re-farming. In this case, the number of 5 Mhz slots available increase to over 100.
