
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked Idea Cellular and Spice Communications to pay Rs 276.5 million by the second week of May 2011 for the delay in the rollout of services in five circles.
Idea Cellular has been served a notice for missing the rollout obligation in Karnataka and Punjab, whereas Spice Communications has been served a notice for the Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra circle.
In the notice, Idea and Spice have been asked to pay Rs 70 million each for the delay of over 52 weeks in the Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh circles. For the Punjab circle, Idea has been asked to pay Rs 45.5 million as liquidated damages for the delay of 39 weeks in meeting rollout obligation.
Spice Communications has been asked to pay a similar amount for the 39-week delay in the Haryana and Maharashtra circles.
