According to Sigve Brekke, managing director, Uninor, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has failed to frame an exit policy for operators in the National Telecom Policy 2011. He added that though the company was not interested in exiting the sector, this procedure would help weed out the less serious players and free the spectrum required by other operators.
Further, he said that the government should permit companies to return spectrum without charging a penalty.
With regard to Uninor’s business targets, Brekke said that the company hopes to break even by 2013 and expects to have surplus cash from operations by 2015.
