DoT has asked all internet service providers (ISPs) to block internet telephony services being offered by around 39 foreign firms in the country, as they are not licensed to provide the service.

According to law, only unified access service licence (UASL) holders are permitted to offer all three types of net telephony services (PC-to-PC, PC-to-mobile/fixed line, and between mobilesand fixed lines). ISPs are allowed to offer only PC-to-PC calls and PC-to-mobiles/fixed lines, and that too, on international calls.
