The Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT has criticised the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for failing to rectify several issues, including not cancelling the licences of operators who have failed to meet the required roll-out obligations.

The Committee has asked DoT to explain why the licences have not been cancelled, despite the recommendations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Prior to this, TRAI had suggested cancelling 74 licences, but DoT felt that only 12 should be cancelled, based on the definition of the term ?roll-out obligations?, as specified in the licence agreement.

Other issues raised by the Committee include the security-related concerns pertaining to BlackBerry devices and curbing telemarketing calls.
