In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Milind Deora, Minister of State for Communications and IT, has said that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) have lost the maximum users after the introduction of mobile number portability (MNP).

After MNP was implemented, 0.93 million BSNL users have ported out of the operator?s network. In comparison, 349,000 users switched over from other operators to the incumbent?s network.

Similarly, 67,198 MTNL subscribers switched over to other operators in the same period, while the incumbent gained 11,593 users.

MNP was launched in Haryana on November 25, 2010 and on January 20, 2011 in the rest of the country. To retain existing customers, both incumbents are undertaking various initiatives.
