Deutsche Telekom, through its subsidiary T-Mobile, is in the final stages of acquiring SunCom Wireless Holdings for $2.4 billion. As per the negotiations, Deutsche Telekom is looking to pay $1.6 billion in cash and assuming $800 million in debt. After the acquisition, T-Mobile will be able to directly serve its customers in four south-eastern states, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, and thus gain access to 98 of the top 100 markets. This will result in cost savings of about $1 billion on account of roaming fees and operating costs. Further, it will boost T-Mobile’s client base in the US by 1.1 million to more than 28 million.
