The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has announced its leadership for 2023-24. Pramod K. Mittal, president, Reliance Jio, will continue to serve as the chairperson, while P. Balaji, chief regulatory and corporate affairs officer, Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi), will remain the vice chairperson of the association. Mittal brings over 40 years of experience in the telecommunications sector to this role. Before taking charge as president at Jio, he worked in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for over 37 years. Since 2000, he has held the positions of deputy director general (DDG) and then senior DDG, working on telecom policy formulation and implementation, as well as overseeing the licensing and regulatory wings of DoT. Meanwhile, Balaji is member of the core leadership team at Vi. He is a pioneer in the telecom sector who began his career in 1993 when the industry was in its infancy. In the past, Balaji has worked as managing director at Nokia India and Sony Mobile, and has held senior leadership positions in the Tata Group, AT&T, Ericsson and Lucent Technologies.
