Cisco is making its debut in the data storage market with the acquisition of US-based company, Whiptail. The deal is worth $415 million and the acquisition is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2014.

Established in 2008, Whiptail is a privately held storage system maker. Following the acquisition, Cisco will be able to provide clients its converged infrastructure solutions, combining components such as servers, data storage devices, networking equipment and software as a single product offering.

Once the acquisition is complete, Whiptail employees will be integrated into the Cisco Computing Systems Product Group.
