US-based Cisco Systems has expressed its interest to collaborate for the government?s smart cities initiative. The Indian government is currently identifying the 100 cities which it wants to convert into smart cities. Cisco is of the view that with its experience in the domain, it can support the government in achieving the results in a time-bound manner.

At present, Cisco has been working with Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation for developing smart cities. Meanwhile, the company has already undertaken projects to convert more than 80 cities across the world into smart cities.

According to a data complied through live projects by Cisco, from cities around the world, a smart city can save energy by 20 per cent, reduce water consumption by 50 per cent, reduce crime by 20 per cent, traffic by 30 per cent and cut education costs by $3 a month and healthcare by $3 a month.
