Chinese telecom equipment manufacturers Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corporation have won four contracts worth $10 million from Afghan Telecom to provide it with mobile technologies and network expansion equipment. This will enable Afghan Telecom to roll out CDMA-based networks as well as fixed line networks in Afghanistan. Afghan Telecom, which presently owns 200,000 fixed digital telephone lines across the country, plans to provide an additional 15,000 lines using these contracts.
