China-based telecom equipment manufacturer ZTE has won a contract to provide China Unicom with 900,000 CDMA handsets during the service provider’s January to March 2007 quarter central procurement period. ZTE, which has supplied over 16 per cent of China Unicom’s total CDMA handsets, will provide the bar-style C172 and C300 models and the clamshell-style C350.

Meanwhile, under an original design manufacturing agreement, ZTE will also produce Vodafone-branded 2G low-cost handsets for sale across Vodafone’s markets.
