Celcom, a wholly owned company of Telekom Malaysia, has selected Alcatel to supply its 3G/UMTS network equipment in a contract valued at $88 million. The deal will reportedly reinforce Alcatel’s position as Celcom’s leading partner for advanced network solutions. Under the agreement, Alcatel will deliver 3G/UMTS radio access network infrastructure and high-performance digital microwave links to carry traffic of enhanced mobile data services, enabling Celcom to complete the next phase of its national 3G deployment programme.
