According to the Dell?Oro Group Ericssson led the long term evolution (LTE) radio access network (RAN) market and had the highest revenue share. Huawei and Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) were placed second and third in this space.

Garnering the third highest revenue share, NSN overtook Alcatel-Lucent as the third leading player in the LTE RAN market. The research firm states that the total RAN market (including 2G, 3G, 4G, excluding TD-time division synchronous code division multiple access and SP Wi-Fi) market witnessed a year-on-year (yoy) decline of  one  per cent in third quarter of 2013.

Stefan Pongratz, director, mobile RAN research, Dell?Oro Group, says, ?Even though growth is slowing down in some of the more advanced mobile broadband markets, there is a great demand for LTE in other markets, particularly Europe, with LTE RAN revenues more than doubling y-o-y,?

The global RAN market is expected to grow in 2014, with higher demand for RAN-based solutions in China offsetting the expected decline in RAN market in Japan. Further, the small cell RAN market is expected to account for about one per cent of total RAN market revenues in 2014.
