Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is targeting at earning revenues of Rs 5 billion in 2015-16 by utilising land bank and monetising its tower assets while also looking at revenue gains from its training centre and seven telecom factories.

For monetising its network of over 75,000 base transceiver stations (BTS), the company is planning to enter into intra-circle roaming pacts with other operators. The operator is also planning to install about 14,736 2G and 10,914 3G BTSs in 2015-16. Apart from that, it will be integrating its Wi-Fi hotspot and LTE infrastructure with the existing GSM network. BSNL will also be augmenting the GSM mobile capacity of its 82 land parcels, in 2015-16.

Recently, the Ministry of Communications and IT has directed BSNL to improve quality of services, especially in border and naxal-affected areas. The government has further stated that it is committed to revive BSNL. In this regard, several initiatives are in the pipeline to improve its market position. BSNL’s profits had started declining from 2004-05 before recording a loss in 2009-10.
