In its report on spectrum management, the Standing Committee on IT (2005-06) has recommended that the government allot 1900 MHz spectrum to players using CDMA technology for expansion of services. The panel has also stated that the government should make all efforts to allot as much spectrum as possible in 800/1900 MHz band to CDMA operators and 900/1800 MHz band to GSM players for expansion of services. On 3G services, it has stated that this is already available through the EDGE and EVDO platforms provided by GSM and CDMA operators respectively, and that the country should not be deprived of access to 3G and other emerging services until 2.1 GHz band is coordinated and spectrum and equipment are made available in this band, as suggested by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
