In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Milind Deora, Minister of State for Communications and IT has said that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has asked for a Rs 83.13 billion refund after it surrenders its BWA spectrum.
He also said that the operator has suggested the alternative of a refund of Rs 67.24 billion for surrendering spectrum in the Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Kolkata, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu circles.
The operator plans to take this step on grounds that it was allotted spectrum in a non-standard frequency, which would not meet its requirements.
As per the guidelines specified for the auction and allotment of BWA spectrum released in 2008, the incumbent had bagged spectrum in the 2.5-2.69 GHz band in various circles.
