Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has awarded a contract worth nearly Rs 50 billion to a consortium led by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for the development of the middle-mile network of BharatNet.

This agreement encompasses three years of construction work along with a ten-year maintenance contract, which includes a fee of 5.5 per cent per annum of capital expenditure for the initial five years and 6.5 per cent per annum for the subsequent five years.

The BharatNet III program was launched by the Indian government in early 2024 with a budget allocation of Rs 650 billion. This tender is part of the broader BharatNet initiative, which is backed by the Prime Minister’s administration and has a total budget of Rs 1.39 trillion.
